This is a versatile and fun craft you can do with your kids or just for fun! Remember those long paper chains we would make as kids to count down the days to Christmas or other holidays? This craft uses those same simple paper rings to make the petals of a large fall flower. Using this idea, you could easily make an entire garden of lovely flowers!
Depending on the holiday, you can change this up and make it into a Christmas wreath or anything else you can think of.
You will need:
styrofoam plate or large ring cut from thin cardboard, such as a cereal box
tacky glue or tape
1. If using a styrofoam plate, cut out the center.
2. Choose the colors from the construction paper that you would like to use, and starting from the short side, cut them into strips about an inch wide. Then place all of your paper strips into a neat stack, and cut the stack in half, making shorter strips.
3. Now fold each strip into a paper ring, securing with a very small dot of tacky glue or tape. If using glue, allow to dry for a short time before moving on to the next step.
4. Begin gluing or taping the rings onto your plate or cardboard circle in any pattern that you choose. Once you have completely covered your plate or cardboard circle, allow to dry. To make the flower center, take another sheet of construction paper in a color of your choice and cut out a large circle, big enough to cover the hole in the center of the plate circle.
Using a marker, cover the paper circle with small dots, and glue it to the back of the paper ring covered circle. Allow to dry.
Have fun with this craft! I’d love to see what you create!
