I remember as a child getting sick at least once a year with stomach flu, earaches and other typical illnesses. Instead of reaching for the nearest pain reliever, my mother would scan natural healing books often, looking for a remedy for what was ailing me. She was always interested in staying healthy, naturally. This has rubbed off on me as an adult and the older I get, the more health conscience I become. I have learned so much about simple ways to keep our bodies healthy and I want to share what I learn with all of you as well. Today I want to talk about chronic inflammation and easy, delicious ways to combat it. Did I just say delicious? Why yes I did!
Do you suffer from chronic inflammation? The symptoms can be subtle but include bloating, rashes on the skin, joint pain, allergies, blood sugar problems, constant fatigue and many more. I think I probably suffered from several of these symptoms and more before I changed my diet completely. As busy parents, we are often working too much with little sleep and lots of stress. This in turn causes us to eat less healthy foods, and get very little exercise as well. It’s like a vicious cycle….work/life/stress…..exhaustion/little sleep….too tired/no time to exercise….eating unhealthy foods and so on. This terrible cycle weakens our immune system, making us more vulnerable to many serious diseases. So what’s a mom to do?
Is there a way to combat chronic inflammation and begin to heal our bodies? The answer is yes! One of the best way to reverse inflammation and improve our health is simply to EAT our way there. There are many ways to do this, but I want to focus on one of the most effective natural anti-inflammatory spices….turmeric.
Turmeric is a lovely, bright yellow spice commonly found in curry powder and scrumptious Indian foods and is easily found in your local grocery store. It’s been used for many years to treat infections, colds and other illnesses. It’s main ingredient curcumin is where the anti-inflammatory magic can be found. Turmeric is used to treat arthritis, inflammatory bowel syndrome, blood sugar issues and even Alzheimer’s disease! Using turmeric can reduce the need to take pain relievers such as NSAIDS and may even protect your body against heart attacks and stroke.
So how do I use this amazing spice? Turmeric can be added to many main dishes, soups, and even drinks! I find that turmeric has a mild taste, but if you prefer, it can be taken in capsule form as well. To help your body better absorb the turmeric, be sure to take it with black pepper, and/or a healthy oil such as olive, flax, or coconut.
Chronic inflammation is a very serious health problem that more of us suffer with than we think. However, we can fight it, and reverse it by taking charge of our health. An easy and delicious way to combat inflammation is with the wonderful spice turmeric, which is easy to use, natural and cost effective. Have you tried turmeric for chronic inflammation? I’d love to hear about your experience! Let us know in the comments below.
