Do you take a summer vacation with your family every year? According to AAA, more than one-third of Americans will be taking a family road trip vacation sometime this year. That’s a lot of planning, packing, and driving this summer! Our family will be one of many to hit the road as well, and I wanted to share some of my top packing essentials that you won’t want to leave behind as you get ready for a fun and hopefully relaxing, summer vacation.
- Create A Packing List…I cannot stress this enough. When packing for a family road trip, lists are my saving grace. They help keep me on top of everything that needs to be done and packed days ahead of time, but they help ensure that nothing important gets left behind. I actually use printable vacation packing lists that I have found online which makes things even easier. You can customize your list so that it perfectly fits your family.
- Overnight Bags…another sanity saver. If your road trip will be longer than one day, and you’ll be staying in a hotel overnight, take a few minutes to put together a small overnight bag, or one for each family member. This bag doesn’t have to be anything fancy, just a small bag that will include pajamas, a change of clothes for the next day, and anything else you will want in the hotel. At the end of a long day of driving, the last thing you’ll want to do is drag all the heavy suitcases from the car into the hotel (possibly up flights of stairs) just because you can’t find your pajamas or that special teddy bear!
- Laundry Bag…this one is so important. Not all hotels offer laundry service. A simple plastic grocery bag is all you need to keep dirty clothes away from the clean ones in your suitcases. It’s also a great place to stash damp bathing suits until you can get them dry and clean.
- Toiletries like Scott Rapid-Dissolving Bath Tissue….this one is a no-brainer but a good reminder too. You’ll want to be sure to bring along plenty of shampoo, soap, whatever you prefer using at home in sample sizes to save room. It’s also a great idea to bring along extra toilet paper. I cannot tell you how many times we’ve been in a rest area and found ourselves without ANY toilet paper!
Scott Rapid-Dissolving toilet paper breaks up four times faster than the leading brand! Plus, it’s FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Certified from responsible sources. This makes it the perfect option to bring along to rest areas, hotels, and any other public bathroom facility this summer. With it’s soft, absorbant sheets Scott Rapid-Dissolving paper is gentle on the skin and a lot more comfortable than the usual rough paper found in public areas. It’s sewer and septic safe making it a win-win for everyone.
