This time of year is always a busy one in my home. As a homeschooling mom of four, there is a never ending list of things to do, from lesson plans/curriculum choices, school supply shopping, and organizing. I had a goal this summer to completely organize my home and create a nice study space in our homeschool room for the kids, but hoped to keep it within our budget. However, I knew this wasn’t going to be easy. My kids love to create things but aren’t always so great about putting things away where they belong. As a result, things tend to get shuffled here and there all over the house, and then it’s never a surprise when school time rolls around and someone is missing something important. It’s a fact that clutter really does create unnecessary stress and who wants more of that?
The summer flew by and we were at the start of another school year. I knew time was running out to set my plan into action, and I was running out of ideas to get started. That’s when Kohl’s contacted me and asked if I would like the opportunity to create a study space on a budget and that was just the inspiration that I needed.
Choosing an area for our new study space was easy…a mostly unused corner of our homeschool room cluttered with books and papers.
I knew just what we needed to add to this space, so off to our local Kohl’s we went. There was a lot to choose from so it was hard to make up our minds but here is what we found.
We needed an area besides the fridge to stick reminders, or special things that the kids wanted to save. These fun and functional bulletin boards were a breeze to hang up and made a perfect place to keep important things in one place.
Next up we needed a nice lamp for reading/studying on rainy days. This desk lamp is adjustable, has extra built in plugins, and even comes with places to store writing supplies and paperclips.
Taking a look at our week at a glance was something else that we desperately needed. We found this cool dry erase board with magnetic (no more lost markers, yay!) markers to help keep us on track all year long.
I found these cute, colorful fabric covered storage boxes in various sizes to organize all of that clutter on the bookshelf.
To top off our sweet new study space….we needed a nice comfy chair! We found this memory foam butterfly chair, perfect for curling up with a good book. I think our study space is going to be the favorite space in the house!
As you can see, this little area of our house went from cluttered to cute and functional easily with the help of Kohl’s. Probably the best part of all was that we stayed well within our budget and spent less than $200! This was a fun and easy project and we couldn’t be happier with the results.
Kohl’s has everything you need to spruce up your home office/study area and much more!
