My two oldest children have been learning all about maps in our homeschool this week, and so we thought it would be fun to make an edible map! Edible maps are a great way for kids to learn all about what the land is like, cities and towns, or anything else that they feel they want to add. Also it’s a fun excuse to get messy and eat your creation too!
Since we live in the sunshine state, we decided it would be fun to make a map of Florida! You can choose any map that you want. Here is a great site for finding maps.
What You’ll Need:
2 cups peanut butter
2 cups light corn syrup
2 cups powdered sugar
Icing or colored sugar to color land and water areas
Candy decorations such as M&M’s, coconut, chocolate chips, anything you would like to use to mark mountain ranges, cities etc
map of choice
What To Do:
Mix together the peanut butter, corn syrup, and powdered sugar. This will form the base for your map. The mixture will start to get very thick as you stir it.
Spread this mixture on the bottom of a large cookie sheet that has been lined with foil.
Using your icing and/or colored sugar, mark the land and water areas of your map.
Add the candy decorations to mark mountain ranges, lakes, cities etc.
Have fun and enjoy eating your map! 🙂
