Old man winter has already been in full force for most of us here in the U.S. and it’s not even technically winter yet! How will we deal with another three months or so of this stuff? How about getting away from the cold, winter conditions and escaping to beautiful Puerto Rico? I think that sounds like a good plan, how about you?
Want to know what’s on my personal Must Do List for Puerto Rico?
Puerto Rico is the All-Star Island, offering 270 miles of coastline and featured in the Top 10 beaches from Travel Channel — including Flamenco Beach in Culebra, often cited as one of the best beaches in the world. I don’t know about you, but I am a total beach lover, and Puerto Rico has some of the most lovely beaches in the world. I love to relax on the shore myself, but you might choose to be a bit more adventurous and try surfing, kiteboarding or snorkeling! There’s plenty to do for the whole family.
How about a magical visit to the bioluminescent bays in Vieques? Yes the water in the bays actually glows with a blue-green light! This is an experience you won’t want to miss in Puerto Rico!
For nature lovers, there are actually 14 state forests including El Yunque, the only sub-tropical rainforest in the United States, and the Guánica Dry Forest, a United Nations Biosphere Reserve. If you love bird watching, this is the place for you!
A trip to San Juan is on my list to experience history and the Puerto Rico Museum of Art! There’s also a children’s interactive exhibit that your little ones are sure to love as well. Book lovers should visit the House of the Book, or Casa del Libro which holds historic documents from Catholic monarchs dating back to Columbus’s second voyage in 1493 and over 300 volumes from the 15th century.
Need more excitement? How about horseback riding, cave exploring or even taking a zipline over a high forest canopy! Plan a nature adventure and climb a mountain while you’re at it. You might want to take in the view from up above by choosing a helicopter, hang gliding or seaplane tour! This is an experience of a lifetime!
After you’ve had an amazing, fun filled day, it’s time to relax and take in some of Puerto Rico’s finest cuisine and delicious Rums! Head back to San Juan to experience tastes in Taíno, Spanish and African cultures. The Saborea is the largest annual food festival in Puerto Rico and is an important gathering for foodies everywhere! Enjoy a little of everything by taking a culinary tour.
As you can see, Puerto Rico is filled with world-class attractions that will turn any trip into a 5-star vacation story! There is so much to do and something for everyone!
