After the perfect vacation, most people come home with tons of pictures. In the old days, the few canisters of film would be taken to the store and developed. Then pictures would be mailed to relatives or stuck on the fridge with a magnet. Digital cameras have changed all that. Digital cameras have given you the freedom taking hundreds of pictures. At the same time, most of the pictures end up staying on the computer in spite of easy accessibility to a free online collage maker. This is because digital pictures become cumbersome to manage.
Following are three suggestions to help you manage your pictures and enjoy your memories again and again:
- Eliminate redundant pictures.
- Group the pictures in folders by date.
- Name the pictures using the date first.
Eliminate Redundant Pictures
The beauty and curse of digital pictures is that you can take so many more pictures than ever before. But, having too many pictures makes it difficult for you to find good pictures. While you are sitting on the plane or in the car, take the camera and delete all the redundant pictures. For example, you only need one group photo when all the expressions are virtually indistinguishable from each other. Whittling down the amount of pictures you keep makes it easier to use them.
Group Pictures in Folder by Date
When you download the pictures onto the computer, make it easy to find them later. Put them into folders by date. For example, all pictures taken in 2013 go into a main folder for 2013. Then you can add subfolders by month and/or event within the main folder.
Rename the Pictures with Date First
Once you download your pictures, rename all of them. When you want to use your pictures to create a collage, photo book, or calendar, it is difficult to know what the pictures are if they are named IMG041. If you don’t have time to rename every single picture individually, group them. For instance, name a set of 2013 11 11 Veteran’s Day Celebration. Then add a (1) or (2) after the pictures so they don’t have the same name. Some computer programs will do this automatically for you. Also, put the date first in the name. This makes it easy to sort when using the pictures with a free online collage maker or other program.
