From Frights To Flaws is an exciting story about a girl named Alyssa who has had a tough go of things in her life. First she lost both of her parents and to make matters worse, she gets sent to live with her Uncle Bruce, who is extremely strict and not all that friendly. Alyssa struggles to keep up with the massive load of school work, chores, and the many other harsh rules she has to follow. She longs to talk to her godfather, Alex, but even making simple phone calls is difficult at her uncle’s house.
All of this is the norm for Alyssa, until the day that magic takes over her life. It all starts with odd little notes appearing out of nowhere from an anonymous stranger. These notes warned her of things and promised answers later. She finally learns who the stranger is, a talking marble statue named Simon who is trying to help her. Everything takes a wild turn when Alyssa is kidnapped by Duchamp and taken to the Fiji Islands where he plans to kill her in order to gain enough power to rule France.
From Frights To Flaws is a beautifully written story. I fell in love with the whimsical characters and completely magical situations and places in the book. My favorite character in the book besides Alyssa herself was Regulus, the marshakeet. A marshakeet is a creature which is half lorikeet and half kangaroo! Regulus is just one of several amazing characters you will come across in the story.
This book reminded me of many unexplainable dreams that I have had or of a wonderful fairytale, in which my mind is set free. It is a fun read and hard to put down once you begin. I think that any young person would love this book, especially if they have a big imagination! I highly recommend this book to young people and adults as well and I look forward to reading more books from the author.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review, however my opinions are 100% my own.
