Recently I came across a Facebook tip for making your own homemade finger paint. Well, it didn’t exactly say “finger paint”, but just kids paint. However, after trying out this “recipe”, I decided that this should clearly be labeled as finger paint.
I did not come up with this idea on my own but found it on Facebook. If you know who came up with this idea originally, please let me know so that I can give them credit and a link back! 🙂
We thought this would be such a great idea to keep around the house! No more buying finger paints for the kids, and….these paints are made with non-toxic ingredients, so it’s not going to hurt anyone if they decide to taste the paint.
After making this, we aren’t sure how well we like it, compared to regular paints. The paints came out very gritty from all of the salt, and we weren’t able to use paint brushes with it very well….so used our fingers and other things like spoons to spread it around on the paper. However, we did have fun, and they worked out well in a pinch!
*Note: you can cut in the ingredients in half, if you would rather make smaller batches of color. As it was written, it makes a HUGE amount of each color. The recipe below, as I understand it, is to make just ONE color.
You will need:
1 cup water
1 cup salt
1 cup flour
food coloring of your choice
1. Mix the flour, salt, and water together. The mixture might have a few lumps. Stir in food coloring, less for lighter colors, more for a darker color.
2. After we mixed up the blue paint, and realized that we had SO much, we decided to divide it in half and make some green as well. So this ended up becoming a fun science experiment too! 🙂
3. Let the fun begin! This paint really is more suitable for fingers and not brushes, or feel free to come up with your own ideas!
