Last week our homeschool group planned a field trip to Marineland, located directly on the coastline in St. Augustine, FL. If you love dolphins or want to learn more about them, Marineland is a great place to visit!
At the present time, Marineland is home to 12 bottlenose dolphins. You can choose from many activities when visiting. Marineland offers visitors the opportunity to swim and interact with the dolphins, touch and feed, trainer for a day, behind the scenes tours, summer camps, and you can even purchase artwork painted by a dolphin during your visit!
During our visit, we learned all about dolphins and their behaviors.
The kids also got to enjoy viewing the dolphins in the huge tanks at the facility.
The highlight of our trip was a mock dolphin rescue right on the beach! We learned how ill or injured dolphins that wash ashore are rescued.
We learned how the dolphins need to be handled, and how they are then transported up the beach and taken to receive medical treatment.
Our trip to Marineland was not only fun but very informative as well! We had beautiful weather and the kids enjoyed themselves. Along with the dolphin adventures, Marineland offers a lovely park area with a playground and sitting areas. Don’t forget to stop by the awesome gift shop as well before you leave!
