Day in and day out I felt my life hanging in the balance. I tried to make sense of
it all and I just couldn’t. In my pain I was forced to take a close look at my life, trying
to put the pieces back together. I felt God pressing on my heart to share my story. For
those of us who have endured a great deal of pain, the problem is we have gotten used to
questioning everything about God, especially His existence. I had begun writing about
all that had occurred in my life, but I wasn’t ready to share my story. In fact I was ready
to let it all go, as I had revised it many times, questioning my worth. Then I remembered
the stories of the innocent lives that I shared with you at the beginning of this chapter,
because they questioned the same thing.
For over a year I waited and prayed. I was ready to go back into darkness, not
sharing my life with anyone, but then something happened that gave me the strength to
go forward unafraid. My confirmation came in the form of a dream that felt more real
than life itself.
“Michael,” shouted one of the angels from across the room. “Look, he writes
about us in his book.”
The one who was called Michael came over. He started reading and going
through the pages of my book. After glancing through my book he handed it back to me–
–wide open exactly where I had stopped writing in my final edit––and said: “God wants
you to write your book.”
I woke up the following morning with a new sense of direction and purpose.
After all of this time, all of those prayers, and the moment when I was willing to give it
all up, God responded. I finally had peace regardless of the outcome.
