After a very long weekend, we are finally back online after moving to a new home. It never ceases to amaze me just how much stuff we have! I know with four kids you have tons of toys, clothes and more furniture but WOW. It really shows itself when you try to pack up and move somewhere! I had been packing our house for the past two weeks off and on, trying not to get too overwhelmed. I told myself to just pack one room a day. Packing forced me to get down to the nitty gritty and purge a lot of things that we no longer needed and take care of things that I had been putting off for way too long.
My husband drives over the road and is gone for a couple of weeks at a time, so getting the house ready to move and making all of the arrangements was up to me. He had insisted that we would save money this time around and move ourselves. I loved the idea of saving money but I was wondering just how we would get it all done with a one year old in tow. I think he forgets that it’s not just he and I anymore! I knew that even though we had donated tons of things, tossed away things that were broken, organized everything, it was still going to be nothing short of a nightmare come moving day. He seemed convinced that we wouldn’t have trouble doing this ourselves but since he isn’t home all the time, I knew he really had NO idea what we were in for.
We finally decided to compromise and hire a moving company to move just the big bulky items and we would get the boxes and little items. The last time we moved we hired a local moving company and unfortunately had a terrible experience. Not only were they overpriced but they complained constantly over having to move our furniture and seemed very out of shape and lazy. They took such a long time and refused to reassemble what they had taken apart, which was supposed to be part of the estimate they had given me over the phone. So we were worried that this time around, we might end up with another bad moving experience.
I searched online for reputable moving companies and was pleased to have found Two Men And A Truck. Everywhere I looked I found excellent reviews from this company. I gave them a call and we discussed our move and what we needed. They actually listened to what I was saying and told me that they charge by the time and not by how much is being moved. I was told that they would help move us for as little or as long as we needed them, and we were allowed to change our minds on moving some things if we wanted to do it ourselves or if we didn’t! I was given an estimate over the phone that included everything from travel time to taking things apart and putting them back together. It was a very fair price and I was impressed with how nice and professional they were over the phone.
Moving day came and the movers arrived promptly at 9AM. They were extremely professional and listened to everything that I said about what items to move and what to leave behind. They wrapped everything carefully and never dropped anything. Also they hurried to and from the truck and didn’t waste a minute! Once at the new house, they had the whole truck unpacked and everything in the correct rooms in just a couple of hours. I couldn’t believe it. Then to my surprise, they only ended up charging me half of the original estimate because I had taken several things apart myself and also because we were moving most of the boxes ourselves.
I cannot say enough good things about this company and the next time we move, this is who we will be using. The only thing that I would do differently next time is plan on having the movers move the boxes and small items too so that we really would have a stress free move. Or is there really such a thing? Haha! If you are planning to move soon, do yourself a favor and check this company out. I’m sure you will agree that they are the best!
What was your last moving experience like? Good or bad?
