I just finished reading another awesome book this week! This book, The Player, by Laura DeLuca is a fast-paced suspense that had me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book.
In the story, a popular high school student Josh had everything that other students envied. He had money, good looks, good grades, the star position in sports and of course, he always got the girls. You know, the type of guy that we all went to school with and maybe even envied a little bit ourselves. Josh had a lot of friends, or least he seemed to. One of best friends, Andrea, lived right next door and she always seemed to understand Josh, even when no one else did.
Normally an A+ student, Josh began struggling in chemistry class until his lab partner, Rosa McBride started helping him. Rosa was smart and considered to be slightly nerdy. But as soon as Josh saw her, he really fell in love, and for the first time in his life, it was for real. Josh had been dating four girlfriends at the same time, and one by one, he broke up with them all and decided he would turn over a new leaf when it came to matters of the heart.
As Josh and Rosa’s new romance began, strange things started happening to the four ex-girlfriends and to himself. It seemed that someone was after him and wanted revenge for the way he had treated his previous girlfriends. One girlfriend ends up dead, another critically inured, and Josh himself was poisoned.
As the story continues, I found myself completely shocked to learn who the killer actually ended up being! This was a great book for not only the younger crowd but also anyone who loves a good suspenseful tale. It kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end. The book is very well written and all of the characters seemed so real that they reminded me of fellow students that I went to high school with myself. I am looking forward to reading many more books from this author!
