Crock Pot Cooking

Another wonderful gift that I received for Christmas was a new crock pot! I had been using the same 5 quart crock pot since my husband and I were married and although it still works well, I really needed something bigger and my old one was missing the knob on the front (my 6 year old son decided that he needed to take the knob off) which made it hard to adjust the cooking temp.

So I received the SLOW COOKER CROCK POT PROGRAMMABLE 7 QUART and I was thrilled! I couldn’t wait to try it out. On New Years Day I decided to make the traditional black eyed peas and ham dish but in my new crock pot. I had frozen some leftover ham from Christmas and threw that in as well as the black eyed peas, seasonings and water. Ah, this crock pot is so roomy!

The crock pot has two settings for high and two for low, plus a warm setting. What is really nice about this model is that after the selected cooking time has been reached, the crock pot automatically shifts to the warm setting, so no over cooking!

Our New Years Day dinner was cooked to perfection as is usually the case with crock pot meals!

Afterwards, cleaning up the crock pot  was easy since it is dishwasher safe. The outside was easy to just wipe clean with a damp cloth.

I love crock pot cooking in general because it is so easy and such a time saver! I’ll be sharing many of my favorite crock pot recipes here on my blog very soon.

I am always looking for new recipes to try out as well! Feel free to leave me a comment here with your favorite one!

  5. I am really getting into my slow cooker lately! I have an old-fashioned one that’s medium sized, and then a large one that works great for bigger meals. I’m working 2 nights a week now at our local Y and that slow cooker is so handy those nights.

I usually go to or for slow cooker recipes. My favorite one lately though is from Pioneer Woman, her Sunday night stew. I’m making this for the 2nd time and this time adding chopped up sweet potatoes too.

  6. I have 4 different styles and sizes and use them constantly – love to walk into the house to a fully prepared meal!

  7. So far this winter our favorite is kale and bean soup.
